Chican@ Studies Attacked in Arizona
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law HB 2281 that bans schools from teaching ethnic studies to particular students. The law was aimed at the Tucson Unified School District that offers a successful Chicano Studies Program. Superintendent of the school district has been trying to dismantle such programs throughout his tenure. The attack on ethnic studies comes on the heels of the anti-immigration, racial profiling immigration legislation that was signed into law the week before.
